About Traditional Thai MassageThai Massage is an ancient and sacred art of healing body and energy work, said to be founded by Doctor Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, primary physician to Siddhārtha Gautama, the historical Buddha. Sharing a common ancestry with Yoga and ancient Chinese medicine, it's roots lay in a religious practice where monks would perform the modality omn one another to ease the aches and pains incurred by spending hours of sitting in meditation each day. Thai Massage releases restrictions in the tissues that occur along the lines which energy and movement take place in the body. In other words, it focuses on the body's natural patterns of movement, much like yoga, rather than simply treating individual muscles and muscle groups. Thai Massage takes place on a mat on the floor, on a fully clothed client. Sessions generally begin at the feet, honoring the belief that tension in the body starts from the ground and works it's way up. The techniques most commonly used include compression, acupressure and stretching. This is a vigorous and thorough therapy and a highly effective treatment for the results-driven client!
